SulaSula is a standard carrying charcoal female who came to the Manor from a breeder in January 2004. She is a gorgeous big, soft chinchilla but she has clearly been through trauma in her life. She has a huge cranial "dent" (visible in the bottom pictures) and she appears to be blind/partially sighted.
Sula was a very frightened and grumpy individual when she arrived at the Manor and she spent a good few days backed into a corner of her cage. Within a very short space of time, however, her disability became apparent and she visibly relaxed when spoken to in a gentle, calm, and quiet manner. It took a little longer for her to trust hands and take treats from fingers without displaying fear.
Sula is a very sensitive soul who makes lots of noise if surprised by being touched. Since she does not see very well (if at all) she will "cack" until she realises what is happening - then she turns into a soppy furball who loves to be tickled under the chin and on her tummy.
Exercise for Sula is quite difficult due to her sight problems. She does have a tendency to be hesitant in new surroundings but once she gains her bearings, she potters about quite happily, making little contact noises to her friend, Poppet.
Earlier this year, Sula gave birth to Calleigh, the first Davidson Chinchillas Charcoal. The birth process was difficult for Sula and the decision has been made to retire her from breeding completely. She now lives a nice quiet life with Poppet.
