All of my chinchillas are real characters and are treated as individuals.
The "Manor" consists of a chinchilla-proofed room in my house with air-conditioning, daylight lighting, and plenty of floor space. All of my chinchillas (unless heavily pregnant or small kits) get out for regular runs (see the exercise page for more details and rationale). The Manor is a place of refuge and a "forever home" to several rescue chinchillas. Some of those rescue chinchillas have disabilities, ranging from missing limbs to chronic inner ear problems, bumblefoot etc. For those chinchillas, my home is called "Monty's Misfit Manor".
All of the inhabitants of Monty's Manor get healthy treats - mini shredded wheat for breakfast, apple leaves and twigs (specially picked, packaged, and posted by my parents from the Scottish East Coast - parcels arrive for "Mr Monty" which must make my postman wonder!). They also have dried herbs, an excellent Azure Chinchillas herd mix, various grasses (timothy hay, readigrass, chaff, alfalfa etc), and the occasional raisin. I do not feed any commercially made "treat" bar or snack. I feed herd mix twice a week, and limited amounts of other treats (one treat daily plus breakfast shredded wheat). My chinchillas are happy and healthy and that is my main overriding priority.
Some of the inhabitants of the Manor will be introduced in the next few pages.
